Cue the 'hallelujah' chorus

I heard back from a newspaper in California! Hallelujah (x 5)!

Did they offer me a job? No. But the fact that a living breathing human being personally responded to my application is reason enough for a little celebration. Yeah, kinda pathetic - but that's sorta what I'm living off of these days....

They sent me writing/reporting simulation test to complete via email. Wahooooooo....

i totally know what you mean. during my job search (that ended in no job at all), all i wanted was someone to call me and be like, "i'm sorry, we reviewed your application but the position has been filled." actually i guess what i'd really wanted was, "you got the job! you can start immediately." but yeah. why would they give you an assessment test if they didn't give you the job?

haha, my sentiments exactly, of all the apps. i've sent in, i've gotten a total of 6 responses, rejections and other. even when a human resources officer is nice enough to send me a rejection letter (as in snail mail) i sort of smile inside because he/she has signed it personally.......heh.

@ jane: They should realize how dehumanizing a process job searching is...the least they could do is acknowledge our humanity....I got a pretty funny snail mail response once. It basically said 'yeah this is a form letter and that sucks for you but hey at least we're kind enough to admit it. In the meantime please don't be too discouraged, even if you never hear from us again. Good luck!' Sheez, ok!

@ enoch: I should clarify - they sent me the writing test as part of the screening before an interview. I was rejoicing at even the small victory of advancing an inch closer to an actual job. In fact, I'll post the writing test they gave me. It was interesting and I must say I actually enjoyed working on it.
